That Vader series birthed the new characters of Doctor Aphra, Triple Zero, BeeTee, and Cylo. Now, that series has come to an end.THIS NEW SERIES IS GOOD!It picks up the moment that Anakin Skywalker awakes in his armor at the end of Revenge of the Sith. It chronicles the first steps of Darth Vader.We learn something new about the Sith. They do not create their own lightsabers. They must take a saber from a Jedi and make it their own.The Sith blades are red and only red.Why?Palpatine explains that the kyber crystals that power the sabers are living things within the Force. This is backed up by the Rogue One novel (it was either that or Catalyst). The crystals are rock, but they are also alive.In the hands of a Sith, the new owner uses the Dark Side to push all his pain into the crystal--until the crystal bleeds and turns the color of the beam red.I just think that is all sorts of awesome!

Solid read from Soule. The second Marvel published Darth Vader series picks up immediately after the infamous "NOOO" from Revenge of the Sith and explores Vader's early days with the fledgling Empire. This Vader is a fascinating character study as he isn't the all powerful Lord of the Sith we know him to be from the original trilogy. Vader is still struggling to shed his previous identity as Anakin Skywalker and feels the tug of the light side. With Palpatine's guidance, Vader is sent on a journey to track down and eliminate one of the few Jedi who survived the purge and to claim the man's lightsaber crystal for himself. Vader may not be all powerful in this book, but it makes him a bit more interesting to follow. Just for the sake of rectifying that awful sequence from Episode Three this book gets respect; the series also sets up the origins of the Sith Inquisition from the Star Wars Rebels show and provides a bit more connective tissue between the Inquisitors and Vader. The action is fun and often intensely brutal (Vader destroying a dam ends up being one hell of a moment) and the world building from Vader's early days provides a great counter point to Giffen's earlier Vader series.

Darth Vader's rise to power makes up this story. It shows Vader testing the waters with his new armor. For a short graphic novel, it shows us Vader's limitations as a leader and how he builds his reputation as a ruthless villain. Overall the art and computer color are spot on. They depict the dark lord with uncanny accuracy that is true to the films. Writer, Charles does a superb job capturing the early career of Vader's stranglehold on the empire.

Picking up directly with the conclusion of Episode III, this volume shows the first trial of young Vader — securing a kyber crystal for his Sith lightsaber. The pages crackle with energy and Vader’s raw emotional state in the early days of his transition to the Dark Side have never felt more electric and poignant. A key scene showing Vader considering an alternate path is especially moving and powerfully presented. Fans of the Rebels TV show will also see a new introduction to the Grand Inquisitor which fleshes out his backstory a bit. This volume was on sale for $3.99 for Kindle — a virtual steal. You don’t know the power of the Dark Side until you check out this awesome story.

This comic series takes an interesting and haunting look at the events of Vader at the very end of and immediately following Episode III. As a kid watching the original SW trilogy (Ep IV-VI), I thought of Darth Vader as the coolest, baddest villain in the galaxy...next to the Emperor. But what Lucas wanted us to know through the prequels is that Vader aka Anakin is actually more of a tragic even sympathetic villain. Among many other issues I have the prequels, they took away some of the mystery and horror of Vader.If you are a SW fan especially a Vader fan, if you love the Vader scene at the end of Rogue One, and you want to know how Anakin became "more machine than man", then you will enjoy reading this comic written by Charles Soule and beautifully drawn by G. Camuncoli. Vader has become to me even more cool, more frighting, and more powerful than what I imagined back when I was a kid.

From writer Charles Soule and various very talented comic book artists, comes the first volume in a new series that takes place right after Episode III and only gets darker and sithier with every issue. It’s a great story/character-based comic-book continuation of Anakin Skywalker’s fall and Lord Vader’s rise. Besides a few weak moments of un-polished character and backdrop artwork, this series really hits the Star Wars spot. Charles Soule’s 3rd Star Wars c-b series is another winner, and the action is also quite cracking (very literally).

Not bad, very good. Soule's story seems more like a collection of "Rogue One"-finale moments. It's Darth involved in Moment after Moment but there's a sequence at the end that gives it all some real weight and payoff. The Camuncoli/Smith art is excellent. I didn't know Cam, but he's a great cartoonist for these characters, his storytelling is top-notch and exciting and he doesn't cheat on Star Wars gear. Smith's inking is bold and striking, very underrated inker and always think he makes the pencils even greater. Curiel's colors are beautiful, the book looks like ILM did it. I kinda think Gillen's run has more personality and ambition than this Soule book. This was a quicker read, a very good action-oriented, visual book.

I got this to help my 7 year old understand his diagnosis better. It can get a little "boring" so we have been reading it slowly but he really likes it and I like having a way to explain ADHD to him.Every time we read it he really identifies with the mini stories about other kids struggling with symptoms. He says he likes that there is a book about kids whose brains work just like his.When we first started reading it we had a problem with him "blaming" his ADHD for some of his negative choices and behaviors but we kept reiterating to him that it's not an excuse or a reason to make bad choices, it just means he has to work harder than other people to make good choices and it seemed to stop.This book is a great way to help you and your child explore and understand their diagnosis together I highly recommend it!

My son and I read this together. He is 9. He really relates to what the message is and helps him and the adults in his life have a better understanding of what he deals with. I highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with a child with ADD/ADHD! It's written in a way that he can understand.

Great read for any parent, Grand parent or even the child to get a better understanding of how to handle a situation. Or rather get a better of understanding of why and how a small situation can escalate to an even bigger problem. More information to make it easier to address and hopefully avoid the situation escalating.

I recommend this book to anyone who is working with kids who have ADHD symptoms and to parents with children recently diagnosed with ADHD. It's written to the kid with an ADHD diagnosis, but it helps the parent understand what their child may be going through or thinking about post-diagnosis. As a therapist, this is a great resource to help your client put words into how they are feeling and normalizes their personal experience. I have the book and the Kindle version. As a parent, I noticed that my son's self-confidence was improving after reading the book and could verbalize his needs much better since he understood what he was going through.

I bought this to use with the ADHD kids I work with, but my 9 year old who has some ADD/ADHD traits wanted to read it. She loved the book and finished reading it in 1 day. She said she learned a lot about herself and her twin sister, and actually took note on things that could help her stay organized. When she was finished she asked me to please get her a binder to help her stay organized with her school papers. Great book!

This was a great book for both of my children with ADHD. The younger one actually felt better about himself after reading it. I gave it to him before his diagnosis, when I suspected he had ADHD like his brother. He was in a place where he was convinced he was a bad kid because he was having trouble following the rules, mostly at school, and would impulsively do things without thinking that he regretted doing. This book helped him realize that his brain worked in ways that made some things harder for him, and that he wasn't trying to be bad.

My son liked this and found to identify with things in it but grew bored somewhat quickly because.... well he suffers from ADHD

Bloom is brilliant, and while his best remains the extraordinary Western Canon, this is a worthy preface.

Very insightful, but I have not read many of the classics Bloom focuses on. I guess that will motivate me to bone up on those, which is a good thing!

Bloom discusses specific writings in the categories of novels, plays and poetry. Some of the discussion depends on knowledge of the writing discussed so a beginner might not follow all the points but there are helpful insights into how to appreciate the various kinds of writings.

Professor Bloom is sometimes pooh-poohed for his support of the Western Canon, but for those not immersed in the humanities, the book is likely to be a signpost to a deeper understanding of literature. Bloom's explanation of Borges illuminated the latters author's fantastic twists, and I was impressed enough to decide to reach much of Bloom's other favorites, including Pynchon, McDonald, Morrison, and West.

It was really just a simple love story of two men who already loved each other but never thought a relationship was possible. There was a bit of drama along the way with the brother and a misunderstanding, but what love story is ever really free of drama? Throw in a bit of humor, some brotherly love, and lots of emotion and you have a great story that I could not put down. Chasen and Tate were great main characters. Both loved their jobs, their family, and each other. However, everyone knows love is not perfect and sometimes mistakes are made. This is where drama emerges and more mistakes are made. The supporting characters were great and really added humor to the story. This story was absolutely worth the read.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

It’s still a little disappointing that there isn’t much more background on the pack itself and why it’s dying out. I’m hoping that’ll become clearer in the next book. I read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second book in the Furbitten Falls Alphas series. In this book, Chasen is getting ready to attend his brother Jarett's mating ceremony when he starts to wonder if he will ever find his fated mate. Chasen arrives at the ceremony and it hits him that his mate is close, and he can't concentrate on anything else but finding his mate. Tate is Jarrett's best friend and they always thought he was an alpha, he hid the fact he was an omega from his friends because he was in love with Chasen and couldn't bare the thought of them getting together and then Chasen moving on breaking his heart. On the morning of the ceremony, Tate realizes he is going into heat and he can't find his heat pills. Tate is the best man so he has no choice but to go to the ceremony. When Tate sees Chasen, he knows Chasen knows the truth. Chasen and Tate have always flirted with each other but never acted on their attraction. Now Chasen can't wait to claim Tate as his own, only everyone thinks Tate is an alpha and he is worried about how Jarrett will react to the truth. I really enjoyed this book, i loved how Chasen accepted Tate as his mate and wanted to be with him. Of course things don't run smoothly for the couple and they have to face issues to work out. I love this series and can't wait for the next book.

About the Author

Emerson Eggerichs, PhD, is an internationally known communication expert and author of the New York Times bestseller Love & Respect.  Just as Dr. Eggerichs transformed millions of marital relationships with a biblical understanding of love and respect, he also turned these principles to one of the most important relationships of all in Mother & Son:  The Respect Effect.  As a communication expert, Emerson has also spoken to groups such as the NFL, NBA, PGA, US Navy SEALs and members of Congress. I don't know about you, but I can always use some help being a better husband. Emerson Eggerichs's book Love and Respect: The Love He She Most Desires, The Respect He Desperately Needs can be a great resource for many couples. However, while the principles he addresses are certainly universal and solid, the application probably does not apply to many marriages. Marriages are as different and varied as we are. I've found that books on marriage often fail to connect by universalizing what helps some couples, trying to apply to all couples.Eggerichs bases his teaching on Ephesians 5:33: "Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." He says that Paul intentionally did not say the wife must love her husband and that a husband must respect his wife because those come naturally to men and women. I'm not sure about that assumption. I may be mistaken, but it seems like the book is weighed much more heavily toward the wife respecting the husband side of that equation.I wouldn't mind going to one of Eggerichs's Love and Respect marriage conferences. Any book or conference like this that triggers your thinking about marriage roles and being a better spouse has value, whatever quibbles I have with the presentation.The best line from the book was from a story he told about a couple they counseled. The couple was in a "crazy cycle" and the wife had refused to have sex with her husband for some time. She was speaking with her mom, whose long, happy marriage the daughter admired. Mom's advice: Stop denying sex! Why not do something that takes so little time and makes him so happy? She wins the mother-in-law of the year award!So my feeling is mixed on this book. It definitely has some helpful sections, but, depending on your personality and the personality of your marriage, it may not hit home with you.

I am a counseling psychologist who specializes in clinical treatment and research of couples and marriage. I read this book out of curiosity.There are few books on the market that are 1) as popular as this book and 2) leave me more heartbroken due to misinformation.I think this book does well to highlight that love and respect are, indeed, very key aspects of relationships (for both partners, btw: women also need respect, and men also need love). I completely see how some, without a critical eye of the book, are positively impacted by the message.However, the author boldly claims that connection and communication are principles that only wives are interested in (false).Perhaps most harrowing, the author declares proudly that his book helped a woman return to her husband, who was abusive for many years, because she learned to "keep her mouth shut" and give him some respect (this is NOT how domestic abuse should be handled). He also shares a story where he was frustrated at his wife because she was frustrated with him for not getting a proper card (basically said don't get mad at me that i got the wrong card, just deal with it and don't get mad!) Another example that seemed particularly childish to me was that the author complained that his wife insisted he pick his wet towels up after his shower...Half of the book is literally the author discussing the blessing his book is and how important love and respect are (it could be easily shortened to about 50 pages without his self-affirming stories or reviews).Please, instead of this book, read: Love Sense or Created for Connection by Sue Johnson; The 7 Principles for Making Marriage Work by John Gottman; I Hear You by Michael Sorensen...... Anything else. Really.

I am a Christian who believes in biblical gender roles. While the author's ideas sound good on the surface and the colored glasses analogy is helpful, this book ultimately does more harm than good. There is a subtle misogyny in the author's language that weighed on me while reading. His opinions are not congruent with my understanding of my identity in Christ. The author also plays fast and loose with scripture, taking passages out of context and building his own narratives around them, neglecting the whole of biblical witness. This was very damaging to me as a new wife trying to find my footing. I finally felt validated after my father (a long-time conservative Christian) told me he saw this author speak and also thought it was a sham. For wisdom in navigating your marriage, stick to the actual Bible and healthy Christian community.

Great, awesome book. I'm in the mental health field and I appreciate this author's take on relationships and what they consider to be important. Truthfully I'm personally agnostic, but thankfully I was open enough to allow myself to read the book and incorporate those standard wants and desires from the opposite sex into a fitting role model for a true harmonious living. I can see how this information works and would encourage anyone in family counseling to pick up the book and give it a try.

We just celebrated our 30th anniversary. This book and video series was the only thing that genuinely helped us. All our other marriage seminars, books, etc. focused on communication. We were communicating fairly well, just were always butting heads trying to get the other to change/not understanding why we were always butting heads when we loved each other and agreed on so many life issues. This book changed our marriage for the first time, because it helped me understand that my husband is just plain wired differently and MUST feel respect. He would get mad, but I'd have no idea why - because I was looking from a female perspective. Finally, as I changed my interactions with him, he felt respected and calmed down. He had always treated me very well, but after I changed, his feelings for me seemed to go deeper. I could go on but won't. I recommend this book and ministry to everyone I encounter.
