This is an incredible accounting of days past. I was born in Worcester and, more than 50 years later, still do. My great grandparents moved here at the turn of the century, and lived in the neighborhoods that the author speaks about. My mother has told me stories of her grandfather's grocery store on Providence Street, that when Passover would come, Manischewitz would send him "Kosher for Pesach" labels to apply to all the coffee cans he had on his shelves. And he was orthodox back then.I loved reading about the author's summer excursions to Lake Quinsigamond to go swimming with his friend, and also when he mentioned White City and the Amusement Park. I had heard stories of the park from my dad and others, but sadly it closed 3 years before I was born. The shopping center has remained and has been recently remodeled.Loved the story about Uncle Harry's wife Ida going to the Poli's vaudeville theatre on Saturdays (the Sabbath). That theatre is now The Hanover Theatre, a very successful entertainment venue in the city.And I never knew that Clark University (my alma mater) used to be Clark College.I recently came across a very good condition hardcover copy (less jacket and in perfect condition except for the pages discolored due to age) of this book, and so enjoyed reading it as you can see by my comments. It may have been written in 1954, just under a decade before I was born, but with my family living in the city during the years that the author was here, and with me still here to see the changes in the city. this has been an incredible find for me.But the book would be interesting to anyone, even if they weren't from Worcester, as I am sure that the stories could fit anywhere with anyone's family.

I had been meaning to read this graphic novel for a while, having heard good things about how it used a sci-fi / action story to talk about homophobia, racism, free will, first love, and self-acceptance; and in light of recent current events, it seemed like the perfect time. The artwork is absolutely wonderful, and perfectly captures all the nuances of the story, which is pretty great in itself. While it can occasionally feel a little predictable, the tale of Deacon and Jeff was sweetly romantic and contained many moments that I found very relatable, in spite of the science fiction setting and sporadic bursts of violence. In a way, this story is similar to recent British hit anthology show "Black Mirror", in that it uses its sci-fi setting to tell a deeply human story to great effect. While it may fall a little short of being a masterpiece, it is a great comic, and one I would love to see continued.

I may not be much of a fan of comic books, but I do consider myself a fan of novels. It's very fortunate to have gay stories and gay writers, but the concept of a robot murdering everybody on a ship and then convincing the last survivor to fall in love with him comes off rapey and extremely far fetched. Further, the dialogue between the therapist and robot encourages belief in self-facing homophobia. Finally, the book steps away from the unbelievable conversations about emotions and love with robot and human to some real, tense sci-if action only to end 10 pages later.I'm very conflicted as a gay man seeking gay media. If only I could lower my expectations, I'd find more joy. However, I find that the bar is set too low for gay media, and that gay stories can get away with subpar dialogue by catering to very basic sexual interests.I give the book a second star as award for creation of gay media, attention to detail in artwork, and for ALMOST writing a compelling storyline. the bits that were great didn't last long enough, and the bits about love were often cringe-inducing. I hope you find more joy as a reader of this novel, but I won't be recommending it to my friends.

I am a big fan of Alex Woolfson's works. He does a good job making a narrative that is easy to believe and true to life, even when the circumstances are themselves larger than life. The characters are fantastic, very well rounded for the small amount of time we get with them. Overall the story itself is enjoyable, the drama of the situation and the feelings evoked during the "present" and "flashback" scenes are very well crafted.As good as Alex Woolfson's story is, it is Winona Nelson's art that truly captures me. She does an absolutely fantastic job with the scenes. The background and location art is well done, but it is with her portrayal of the various characters that leaves me smitten. She easily brings the story to life and captures emotions beautifully.While I love the story and the art I will say that the pacing to it is a bit... iffy, perhaps, once you get to the second half or perhaps the last quarter. Suddenly the story that has, until then, been so well paced starts charging toward the end. You end up being left with an ending that, while in no way bad or poorly done, feels as if it's come a bit too soon and in some ways, out of the blue.

Alex Woolfson, if you don't know of him I won't explain. This book and his characters are well thought out and developed. LOL. Whole new meaning with "what would you do if a real man touched you" , as a guard gets choked! He, he, he! Lol. Love the sci-fi comics with AI showing more humanity than humans.

You would never believe you could read this entire comic for free on the web. It's not simply the same old thing in the form of aflimsy comic. This book is so high-quality and LARGE. It's practically the size of an artbook rather than a comic and has a lot of information from the site on the back as well as several extras, including the process of the artist getting such clean lines. The "roughs" look better than most comics I've seen and the pencils are where I'd stop and scan because they are so exact that the inking seems superfluous, but not for this. If you generally do not like comics in color, it is subdued enough that it makes sense and works as well in print as it does on the computer, especially if you have a low resolution and have to scroll. The book is heavy and a completely different experience from reading it online. If you enjoy the comic, you owe it to yourself to buy it.

It has all been said, the art work is superb, the story is superb and the pacing is superb. I would go so far as to say that you can be gay or straight and still love this magnificent love story between Deacon and android killing machine and Jeff the frail human that he has to kill but falls in love with and must tell his superiors what happened and why he should not be deactivated. The wordplay and psychological aspects of this story are outstanding. I need there to be a part 2!

An amazing comic that asks the age old science fiction question, "What does it mean to be human?" A bit too short, but this started as a web comic, so it's understandable. There's a bit of a "true love conquers all" theme here that is very satisfying but perhaps keeps the narrative from being as lofty as it would like to be.

Great story and great graphics, thank you! It was also great to read about how the novel was made - learning about the story scripting, outlining, as well as the graphics for it - thanks lots, was an awesome read throughout.

Good and Sound Advice. Worth reading

If anybody wants/needs an inclusive, easy to understand book on investing, this is the one for you. Chuck's usage of examples and plain english explanations make investing understandable for the novice. Every page has information you can use. I always shied away from getting involved in the world of finance because for me it was difficult to understand. Not anymore. If your curious or serious about financial education...read this book. You owe it to yourself to become familiar with investing if you want a comfortable, worry free retirement.

I read this book over the past two weeks, and as an investing novice, the information that the author provides is both helpful, informative, and not overly complicated. I appreciated that, unlike most authors, this author does not pretend to have ALL the answers. In fact, he has 9 other experts write in this book on investments and strategies that he, the author, isn't an expert. Since the book is titled "What you Don't know Can Hurt You", it's refreshing to know that the author knows what he doesn't know, and is willing to ask others for advice. Much like most of us have to do when it comes to investments. A great book for the investing novice, or a seasoned vet who wants to better understand what kinds of investments are out there, things to avoid, and even, what questions to ask a financial adviser you are interested in hiring. Investing money has always been an overwhelming prospect for me. Society tells us all to invest our money and prepare for our future, but how?Investing Simplified has been a perfect place for me to start this journey. I have found the information and presentation easy to follow and organized in a handy manner for all my followup questions. I know that I will read this book over again because there is so much information that will help me make future financial decisions. I really appreciate the author presenting this material with the addition of other specialist in the field of finance.

Chuck Price has the great ability of making the complex easy to understand. I love the way he explains "how things work" in a way the financial layperson can understand. If everyone just read Chapter 15 and then paid attention to the 15, 10, 5, and 1 year checklists to prepare for retirement the book would be of great benefit in securing retirement. It is wonderful to have a book written by someone who has advised countless clients over many years and knows how every financial tool works, and can explain simply what benefit (or disadvantage) they might be. Plus, it is refreshing that he has found experts in other fields to explain how specific types of investing and leveraging work.I wish this book had existed 10 years ago and that Chuck had his practice in my hometown; I would have made many better decisions, informed decisions, about my investing and retirement plans.

Chuck Price hits the nail on the head with this powerful examination of the investment industry. This is a must read for any investor looking for a simplified approach to understanding what really matters when it comes to selecting a Financial Advisor and creating a clear path to a comfortable retirement. Thouroughly engaging! This one is going on my reference shelf.

A very well written book that is easy to understand. I really appreciated Chuck's explanations and examples to a wide variety of investments options. Chuck does an excellent job of explaining the principles of risk management. I recommend this book to anyone who wants an easy to understand explanation of the current investment options.

The Deep State like Santa Clause is a make believe tale for children and Venerable Adults. In this book Jerome Corsi over the length of the book attempts to promote the view that Mainstream Media, The CIA, The FBI, Democrats, The New York Times and the Washington Post are all involved in a plot to bring down President Trump. It’s a fun read but one all you can do is shake your head because you realize none of it can be can be true. In the final chapter Corsi suggest that President should just fire half the Government. All you can do is laugh.

First read Gezatone's one star review labelled "A Hot Mess...", then come here.Jerome Corsi, who won fame for swiftboating John Kerry, and who works for InfoWars lists the premises of his book in the introduction: "international globalists and their central bankers", "socialists", and "communists" have conspired with Hillary Clinton to impose a New World Order, in conjunction with Barack Obama, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, James Comey, Andrew McCabe, and Rod Rosenstein. He says "...a second Clinton presidency would allow the Deep State to continue running the international drug trade while supporting the military-industrial complex in a policy of perpetual war." He names Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and George H. W. Bush as "developing a plan to support the Muslim Brotherhood's penetration of the top levels of the US national security apparatus, including the White House, the National Security Council, and numerous intelligence agencies, including the CIA [and the FBI]". To fix things "Trump must put an end to the Federal Reserve System" and "the unconstitutional income tax" (and thus the IRS).Oh, and the CIA killed JFK.In my humble opinion, that's pretty wingnut, even for the most rabid of Trump supporters.However I'll bet most of the people who gave the book high ratings skipped right over these comments and they didn't even register, even though they are repeated two or three times. That's because the bulk of the text is devoted to more "normal" criticisms of what Corsi calls the Deep State. He doesn't ever really provide any evidence to support his more "out there" allegations.That's not to say that he's correct in what he does say.Through most of the book, Corsi keeps his wildest conspiracy theories tamped down. Instead he presents the all-too-familiar arguments that Comey and McCabe and Stroz and Page were agents for Hillary, who had access to damning information (the Trump-Russia investigation) but chose not to use it to win the election. Instead it was held in reserve as an "insurance policy" to use to impeach Trump after he won.Huh?And Comey, in particular worked to let Hillary off the hook for obviously criminal behavior and help her win the election, ignoring the fact that he may have been the most salient reason Clinton lost.Yeah, when you lay it out that way it doesn't make sense.Corsi's claim that Hillary engaged in obviously criminal behavior isn't convincing (and doesn't square with known facts). He also conveniently ignores the fact that most of his identified "bad actors" are Republicans, not "socialist" or "communist" liberals. He misrepresents data (the Steele dossier is "discredited" or "fraudulent", when that's not actually true), Page was "fired" from the Mueller investigation (no, her assignment ended before her text messages were even discovered) or the book was published too early to include known information (the data that Russia abused social media, Manafort's conviction and cooperation with Mueller).If you worry about the New World Order, you won't like the book because he mentions it but really doesn't emphasize it or present any supporting data. If you think the New World Order, Federal Reserve, IRS, and JFK stuff is wingnut material you can easily skip over it and pretend he didn't say it. If you like the kind of "evidence" that Hannity and Fox present, you will think this book is great but I doubt you'll learn anything new. If you are one of the (very) few who are reading this to obtain information about a real Deep State, you'll be disappointed that he "isn't up-to-date" with current knowledge and that he misrepresents data that are known. If you're looking for a logical discussion about the Deep State - whether it actually exists, and why people might support it, you won't get it from this book. Corsi just knows it exists. When you parse his explanations about why people may be a part of it, the logic falls apart (example: everyone held the most damning information for impeachment rather using it to win election).If you want my opinion, there isn't a coordinated Deep State at all - there are just people who - like many Republicans before the election - are horrified by Trump the person and who are trying to minimize the damage he does to the world. But this book doesn't mention these folks at all.

The FBI and DOJ are also inspirators to be included within contemporary authority that are well defined as anathema to civil rights and traditional freedoms.The Obama goal of power was ultimately to transform the nation into a socialist society of Islamist extremists consistent with the Deep State's hard-left agenda. This is a very well written book and the best that I have read on the subject. It is very detailed and gives you a great time-iine of things. We all want to know the who, what, and where, when, and how if it is something that affects our lives. The deep state is much deeper than I thought.

Jerome Corsi is being persecuted for telling the truth. This book is carefully documented. Great if you want to know the truth about the Deep State and its reaction to Trump. I look forward to another book by Dr. Corsi that talks more broadly about the Deep State.

I was hoping to have gained some insight into the thinking of those who support Donald Trump. What I got instead was a diatribe attempting to defend Trump's indefensible behavior based on supposition and hazy logic and predicated on a fantastic conspiracy theory. Trash!... or rather toxic waste since it has the potential to do damage. A waste of time.

Life was so uncertain that life at a Catholic girls reform school in Baltimore was recalled by Billie sentimentally. As is the case with so many artists, it is impossible to grow up without a childhood. Her life was a series of mistakes and misadventures that ended with her dying handcuffed to her hospital bed, dying of alcoholism complicated by drug addiction before she was 50.Holiday's life on the stage was for the most part where she achieved transcendence. Despite being a bit of a handful, she worked with Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, some of the best names in the business at the height of the jazz era. Her romantic life was dreadful, tinged with masochistic entanglements and heavily fused by substance abuse, with heroin proving to be her downfall.Billie's horrible wonderful life is ably chronicled in this book, which has to be one of the best biographies ever written. Donald Clark weaves a series of interviews into a fascinating mosaic of an incomparable artist with an intemperate life.

I don't think words can truly express how much I loved this book. This is her story, the good, the bad and even the ugly. Like all great artists, she was a complex character, full of contradictions, yet extremely gifted and one of the best vocalists we will ever have known. This isn't an easy read in some parts, but biographies are meant to be honest no matter how tragic they are. If you want to know more about her life and the climate of the jazz music industry during that time period in American history, this is a great read. Highly recommended.

Great book and love the pacing of it. So sad to see such an awesome talent and unique voice fall from grace from drug abuse and a broken upbringing.Lady Day will always be looked at as a tragic figure, but viewed with an awesome voice and great stage presence of her time.

Just not feeling the story. It's dry and easy to put down. Missing details and is more a whose who. Quality of writing is more reporting than telling her story.

Great book full of interesting info. It is a bit long winded so I pick it up every week or so. Reading it straight through would be a little tiresome.

I bought this bio for a friend and he absolutely loved it...inept information about the fabulous legendary Billie holiday....a must have for any holiday fan!

Read this book and you'll know about everything one needs to know about this fascinating though tragically damaged woman. Her childhood was broken, which basically led her to become what she became as a person. Billie was brilliant as a vocalist, beautiful when she allowed herself to be, and was manipulated, brutalized, and dependent. At the same time. she produced some of the most incredible and moving vocals in the jazz idiom. Clarke does a fine job sourcing original material. However, his writing, which involves quotes from multiple sources, frequently leaves one in the dark as to who exactly he's quoting, which becomes a bit frustrating over time. However, if you want to know all there is to know about this tragic piece of art named Billie Holiday, read this book and cope with its problems.
