After a tornado destroys her house, high school senior Ella and her family move in with their next door neighbours including Ella's former best friend Ethan who she believes rejected her four years ago and hasn't spoken to since.I loved Ella and Ethan and I loved the style of writing, this is my first Amy Sparling novel and it won't be my last. From the description I was expecting it to be quite cheesy and overly dramatic and I was pleasantly surprised by this really sweet story with maybe just a little bit too much drama.I did have a couple of issues with this book. There are a number of blatant typos and a few minor inconsistencies. But the main reason I only gave it four stars was because the ending felt rushed and incomplete. I really hope there will be a sequel because I felt like it was building up to something bigger and I want to know what happens to Ella and Ethan after they finish school.
I wanted to like this book, because it wasn't a complete disaster. Unfortunately despite there being a ton of promise in it, its basic premise is flawed so I can't really rate it higher than I have. I feel like four years is way too long to hold a grudge against someone you were supposedly so tight with, and from a third party who tried to hit on Ella afterwards, too. I realize they were just kids, but they were REALLY DUMB even for kids.I also feel like the tension with Ethan's ex girlfriend was resolved way too neatly. No one changes their entire perspective in just a week, and with how nasty she was, I found it slightly unbelievable that they forgave her so quickly.So yeah. An okay book. I wouldn't try to stop you from reading it if you wanted to.
I enjoyed this book. It was written in an interesting way. First Ella's point of view, then Ethan's, and they each picked up from one another's ending. So you got to see both sides of the story rather than just one.The romance parts between Ella and Ethan were cute, but weird at times. The living arrangement was a bit off to me and then for the parents to just shrug off the fact that their kids finally hooked up. It was weird, but cute story nonetheless.I do wish that the ending had a little more to it, it seemed super rushed and "oh well let's just give this one to them". Amy definitely could've done a lot more with that.Overall it was a cute book and would like to see more between these two.
I really enjoyed this book. I found it a fun & romantic read. I loved Ethan & Ella together. Of course they had to deal with some drama from a crazy ex-girlfriend. I liked how Ethan & Ella were true to each other. I hate books where there's cheating involved (that to me isn't romantic). No cheating in this book. 4 star rating is because of the swearing (just a few) but totally unnecessary & no epilogue. Recommend 16 years & up.
What a great book! The reality of the story is wonderful and can have many people relate to what the teens experience in this book. It has bullying, breakups, teenage angst, and more. It also contains a sweet love story of childhood sweethearts! The unusual living circumstances and snarky attitude of the teens involved all make for a past faced great read that will leave a smile on your face.
I only put this book down once and that was because I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. Ethan is an absolute sweetheart, making him perfect for Ella.
Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I adored Ella and Ethan was the perfect swoon worthy guy! I loved how Ella stood up for herself and their romance kindled organically. There were lots of favorite and funny moments: the T-shirt, the second kiss, and the prom.
Good high school romance. High school is full of drama, mean girls, a regular people. This was a sweet story of the regular girl winning.
