I got this book from my local bookstore. It was at the new and interesting section. I finished this in a day, having worked at a corporate before, story pulled me into it. I saw myself in Frances and her roommate reminded me my close friends. It’s a good story for a young person’s discovery of life; what they want from it, what happens on the way. I like how realistic and sometime ridiculous at times. I’ll definitely keep an eye on Hartley Lin’s other work from now on.
Lin does a great job of capturing the shellshock of overworked attorneys and the confusions of early adulthood. The style of the drawings is also very striking. The ending, however, is neither hopeful nor tragic but just fundamentally annoying.
This comic has incredible depth. The characters are so well realized that it’s hard to believe this is a work of fiction and that they don’t really exist. The cartooning is top notch and the Peter Bagge blurb on the back cover is right- the backgrounds really are stunning. One of the best comics of 2018.
This is not merely a collection of Lin's uncollected floppies. The material Lin added here is essential and give greater depth and complexity to the stories that were already wonderful.
