I have written about Boston and New England for almost 20 years. Now in its second edition, Day Trips New England is my second travel guide book- and it represents all I know about the region!Planning a day trip, weekend getaway or a longer adventure? These are  my suggestions for the region's off-the-beaten path gems like the Parker River Wildlife Refuge in Ipswich, Massachusetts and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center in Hartford as well as can't miss activities like schooner cruises in Camden, Maine and the Marlboro Music Festival in Southern Vermont. I also give my recommendations for where to stay, eat and shop along the way. Each of the 50 pre-planned itineraries includes driving directions and a map too! Organized by state, this is a hub and spoke approach to travel. Choose one of the main New England cities as your base- for example- Portland or Providence, and drive to another part of the region for your day and night trips.  From Boston's Freedom Trail to Newport's mansions, from New Hampshire's stunning foliage to Cape Cod's lighthouses, I have mapped out the region's best jaunts. This was a gift for my husband who loves to take day trips but is so hard to come up with an itinerary in our busy schedule. This really was so helpful and will be heavily used!!!
I had seen this at my local bookseller but found the Amazon price to be about half. Great ideas for day trips and overnights. Yes, the usual locations are listed but I found several out-of-the-way places (for me) that I plan to explore. Seller delivered exactly as promised- new book in a timely manner. Thank you!

Composed like a yellow book (mostly dry facts and lists) instead of a travel guide There is no prioritization of what's worth seeing in any given town, just endless lists of options.
A must have for all New Englanders...Great guide and idea book for taking day trips or weekend getaways! On many occasions, our family decides last minute to go on a weekend "day trip" excursion, and can't decide where to go/what to do...this book gives you lots of ideas and tips. Very well written and organized!
