This book has surpassed the Bhagavad Gita as my most treasured book-type companion on the journey. It is a collection of beautifully, brilliantly, grittily translated poems of Ram Prasad, although Hixon probably improvised somewhat working from the authority of his own expanded consciousness. So the voice, the singer of these love songs to God, is perhaps a magnificent sum of two great, great souls. At any rate, each poem takes me straight into my own experience (it really resonates) and then stretches my paradigms and then finally casts the stunning light of non-dualistic wisdom within. So sometimes I feel like I have traveled through a whole lifetime of spiritual growth from reading one poem! Each one fans the fires of my longing for closeness to the Divine while never glossing over the reality of our foibles and intractable paths of the mind and ego. The book is a day-to-day manual on how to live in a body on earth from the very heart of the Vedas, from the perspective of absolute surrender and rapture in the Mother of the Universe. I read at least one poem every morning as my spiritual nutrition and it frames how I step into the day. I couldn't recommend this book highly enough.

this is a wonderful book of devotional poetry with a wisdom filled introduction on various aspects of the Divine Mother. mr. hixon is not merely a scholar but also a devotee of Shakti and Goddess. profound philosophical teachings and the challenges of human relationship with the Divine are contained here in these devotional poems. Lex also has a good book on indian saint Ramakrishna called Great Swan...

One of my top 2 or 3 collections of devotional and mystical poetry. If you love the Divine Feminine, you have to read Lex's translation/revisioning. It's too bad so much of Ramprasad's poetry has not survived to this day. Om Ma Kali!

This is one of the most inspirational collections of devotional poetry I have ever read. Lex Hixon does an excellent job of expressing the essence of Yoga philosophy and Tantra in poetic English. The combination of the ecstatic musings of the 19th century Bengali poet, Ramprasad and the modern lively English of Lex Hixon has created a masterpiece. I would recommend this book to all interested in the devotional experience of Tantra as well as the Vedanta philosophy. The beauty of the book is that you need not be a scholar to experience the mystical vision of Tantra Yoga.

I ordered the 10th edition of, Sunshine on My Face, because it didn't mention dementia or anything related to memory difficulties on the cover.However, to my surprise, inside the 1st few pages of the book it mentions memory difficulties etc. in several places as well as on the back cover. I will return the book as my 85y/o mother, depending on the day, is very sensitive about her dementia. I would recommend changingthe back cover and maybe making the 1st few pages of the book perforated. The 1st few pages have valuable info.but could be upsetting to the person with memory issues. My mother has mid stage Alzheimer. Book has cute colorful pages.

Thank you for this lovely book geared towards our older loved ones. My mom has Alzheimer's and she loved the pictures and story line. Not childish like other books so she could relate. We especially appreciated the caregivers section that has suggestions for an interactive story time. Great to be able to guide the experience in a non-stressful way. I wish there was a series of books by this author.

I love using this book with my mother in law. She is 94 and has dementia and it really aurprises me that she can read it with me sometimes and sings with me. I am a teacher so I really appreciate the lesson plans. It gives me a means to interact and communicate with her. Thank you for both books in the series

If you are expecting a cookbook, like I was, I think you will be disappointed. However, I don't regret my purchase: This book is full of great information for women who have been diagnosed with prediabetes or gestational diabetes. I find Ms. Nichol's approach very reasonable, and I like her emphasis on mindful eating. She makes some very convincing arguments that challenge conventional GD treatment (see chapter 11). I like that she includes a list of foods to eat and foods to avoid. There's a fairly robust list of snack ideas,. which was really helpful as I try to figure out what/when to eat.A couple of things, though, that I didn't like about this book. There's little information about fruit. It's included in some of the meal plans and snack ideas, but it's not really addressed like other carb sources are. This was confusing. Secondly, I was hoping for more recipes to get me inspired. I was really disappointed by the number of recipes included. I think she is purposely trying not to make this a "what to eat / diet plan" book, but for people that really need to change how they're eating, a few weeks worth of ideas would be very welcome.

I am so happy to have discovered this book. When I got pregnant I had a good idea of how to eat to keep my blood sugar steady, but this guide was invaluable in its advice and insight on how to build a diet that not only kept blood sugar in a healthy range, but offered the most nutritional bang for your buck for mom and baby. The focus on what to ADD as opposed to just what to avoid was a welcome and insightful addition. Not to mention the fact that reading it made me feel understood and validated in my choices, when seemingly everyone around me was pushing the status quo.For the past four years I’ve been focusing on eating real, whole foods. I’ve cut out gluten and most grains, reduced my sugar intake drastically, and found a level of health and comfort in my body I never thought possible. Throughout this time, my husband and I were also trying to conceive. It took a long time, but we were thrilled to find out we are expecting our first child several months ago. Since then, I’ve continued eating pretty well. My appetite took quite a hit the first trimester, but I avoided morning sickness for the most part. I was surprised at my lack of crazy cravings.From my experience over the last few years, I knew my body does not handle refined sugar or processed grain products well. Those foods are also pretty devoid of nutrition so I keep these types of foods to a minimum, although I no longer think of them as “bad” or “never”. That tends to insight my inner toddler who doesn’t want to be told “no”. Instead, I try to eat what makes me feel best at any given time. It works for me!Knowing this, I had a bad, bad feeling about having to do the diabetes testing done during pregnancy. My doctor does the 1 hour glucose tolerance screening followed by the 3 hour test if your first results cause concern. I did the first screening (despite my reservations) and my results came back high. I was not surprised that my body didn’t know what to do with all that glucose all at once. Ironically, if I was taxing my body with a high carb diet on a daily basis, I’d probably do OK on the test. My body just wasn’t used to dealing with that load.At this point, I decided to take a stand and refuse the three hour test. It sounded miserable and I knew I’d fail. It took some serious negotiating, but my doctor finally allowed me to get a blood sugar meter and just test 4 times a day to see how I was handling the food I was actually eating (I requested this from the get-go but was shot down earlier). Basically, she agreed to treat me “like” a gestational diabetic but would hold off with an official diagnosis as long as my numbers stayed in range.That was when I found this wonderful book!As a result of following the advice in this book, I have kept my blood sugar steady and my doctor is happy! Whether you have an official diagnosis of GD or not, following this author’s protocol is perfect for any pregnant woman. We all want to do the best for ourselves and our new little ones. This is a great way to start! Thank you!

I got this book after failing the 1-hour glucose test in my third trimester. This is an excellent book to help understand and to cope with a gestational diabetes diagnosis. I think it explains the condition well and how to handle it. One of the best things about it is that it includes personal experiences from other moms dealing with it, which is especially helpful if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed or upset, because let’s face it—no one wants to have gestational diabetes, and no one should feel guilty or upset as it is mostly caused by hormones. With the help of this book, I was able to feel more confident dealing with the dietary changes and daily glucose tests, but interestingly enough, I ended up taking the 3-hour glucose test and passing with flying colors.

After feeling blindsided by a diagnoses of GDM, I became desperate for something with evidence-based, up-to-date information after struggling to gain control of my sugars with the conventional guidelines. My own care team just did not seem to fully understand how to provide appropriate advise that was not cookie cutter or based on old teachings. With this book in hand, I was able to have real conversations on why I was struggling and to feel confident in decisions that are contrary to conventional guidelines, knowing the newer evidence was on my side. Now if only this book was handed out with the Glucola!

This book has been an amazing source of information, encouragement, and hope. I’m so grateful to have found it, and I’m already feeling better after a few days of implementing its recommendations into my diet. I highly and strongly suggest this to anyone that may be dealing with GD.The author’s writing and explanations are thorough and easy to understand. The testimonies gave me tremendous hope, and she also provides sample meal plans and recipes to help start incorporating new foods into your diet that will stabilize blood sugar.I read the entire book in a day, took notes, and will continue to reference and review this book for the remainder of my pregnancy (and hopefully for the rest of my life).

Samurai Jack is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. The series has ended, so when there's an opportunity to revisit Jack and his seemingly eternal struggle against the evil that is Aku, you can count me in. Quantum Jack revisits the wandering samurai in various incarnations that Aku seems to have spawned to keep Jack from facing him in his real timeline. Jack is different in all of them, but is always a hero on some level.While I enjoyed the premise, the action, and the bits and pieces of classic Jack that pop up here and there, overall the story is unsatisfying. There is never a resolution and every time he realizes things are not quite right, he "shifts" into a new incarnation. And while I won't say the art is bad per-se, it isn't what I came to expect from the cartoon and previous comics. I would not recommend starting out with this if your are new to Samurai Jack and probably won't read it a second time.Quantum Jack is a collection of 5 issues in a single volume from IDW publishing. Excellent book. This book delivers what it promises. Expensive though. It is thoroughly and methodically written, covering each topic in detail. My only recommendation is that, if it feels like it is going slow, feel free to heavily skim the book for the stuff you need. As long as you know what you are skipping, then you won't be in danger of overlooking something. You can always drill down as needed, or go back to it.

William Murphy approached the mathematics of valuing patents and intellectual property in a straightforward manner. His approach is more impressive than the basic three-alternatives approach of (1) cost to replace, (2) current market value, and (3) present value of present income stream. The approach of this book assists the IP professional to make decisions regarding not only the existing patent portfolio but also whether it is worth applying for patents on new inventions.
